Whisper Island registers a handful of global shortcuts so you can drive it from any app without bringing the window forward.

Default shortcuts

ShortcutAction
Cmd+Shift+SpaceMic toggle / push-to-talk
Cmd+Shift+HShow / hide the pill (no-op in notch mode)
Cmd+Shift+LExpand / collapse the overlay
Cmd+Shift+VToggle clipboard inclusion
All four are rebindable from Settings → Shortcuts.

Rebinding

Open Settings → Shortcuts, click the shortcut you want to change, and press the new combination. Whisper Island pauses all global shortcuts while you’re recording the new one to avoid accidental triggers, then re-registers them when you confirm.
Pick combos that include at least one modifier (Cmd, Ctrl, Alt, Shift). Single-key shortcuts would conflict with normal typing.

Coexistence with Coddo Desktop

When Coddo Desktop is running, it creates a lockfile (/tmp/coddo-desktop-active.lock). Whisper Island detects this and the mic shortcut becomes a no-op so the same key combo doesn’t double-fire — Coddo Desktop owns it instead. Quit Coddo Desktop and Whisper Island reclaims the shortcut automatically.

During onboarding

While the onboarding window is open, Whisper Island registers only a minimal set of temporary shortcuts. The full set is installed once you complete onboarding so you don’t accidentally trigger transcription during the tour.

Tray menu

The tray icon (menu bar) gives you menu-based access to the same actions: open Settings, show / hide the overlay, switch display mode, install pending updates, and quit.
